For the Love of His Daughter
The story of Papero started in South Korea in 2011 with Kim Kang-Kook (now CEO of Papero) and a visit to a bookstore with his daughter who was five years old at the time.
While searching for educational toys in the bookstore, he found a wood assembly model that used carpentry tools to make. The product seemed dangerous for his five-year-old to use. It included knives, glue and other tools which weren’t made of eco-friendly materials. This gave him inspiration to design a safer and more eco-friendly product for his daughter.
He quickly started designing a prefabricated car. It was a product that could only be completed by inserting and assembling paper without having to use a knife or glue. When his five-year-old daughter easily completed the car, Kim decided to launch of a paper assembly product brand.
He quit his job at Samsung and started designing paper model products. His new found talent quickly caught the eye of design experts around the world and his products won numerous prestigious design awards such as:
• 2009 IF Communication Design
• Red Dot Design Award
• IDEA Design Award in 2013
He improved his products by choosing to import eco-friendly materials from Japan. The corresponding paper, which did not bleach, burn or turn black during laser processing and made to last a long time. He uses top of the line German custom-made laser machines to enhance its sophisticated and neat design.
The sophistication and high quality products combined with a safe, fun, easy to build and eco-friendly offering have made Papero one of the world’s best and most unique model assembly products.
